Renovations to Tropicana Avenue near the University of Nevada, Las Vegas between Wilbur Street and Kelch Drive are expected to begin this year.
The planned stretch of land fronts UNLV and runs through two important intersections at University Center Drive and Paradise Road, connecting to Harry Reid International Airport. During construction, westbound traffic is to be moved underground between Maryland Parkway and Paradise. Eastbound traffic will remain on ground level.
UNLV is planning to transfer six acres of land to Clark County to meet the required right-of-way. The value of the land is estimated to be between $15M-$20M, but the university is transferring the land for no cost.
According to Clark County staff, Jacobs is the design firm attached to the renovation. A general contractor has not been selected as the project is still in the design phase.
The CIP had the project evaluated at $168.5M. Construction is expected to start in spring of 2026.
Tompkins Avenue
UNLV is also transferring 42 acres of land west of its campus on Tropicana to the County at no cost. This will result in an extension of Tompkins Avenue between Koval Lane and Paradise Road. The extension will create an east-west road with Tompkins at the north portion of the 42 acres.
County staff stated the design firm is GCW, Inc. A general contractor also has not been selected for this project. CIP documents valued the project at $31M. Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2025.
