The 18,000-acre Apex Industrial Park is home to several large facilities that contain businesses from Kroger’s Smith’s Food and Drug to Crocs’ HEYDUDE. Once the Technical Corrections Act is signed, the City of North Las Vegas and the Apex Industrial Park Owners Association will be given extended rights in the area. Currently, the U.S. Department of Interior has control of these rights. More specifically, North Las Vegas would be given the ability to issue permits and provide utility access. Essentially, it would give the City more authority in the area. City officials hope this will streamline permitting processes and encourage further development. As most of Nevada’s land is owned by the federal government, companies must go through the Bureau of Land Management to obtain necessary permits. The legislation passed through the House of Representatives on May 13 and the Senate on June 20. The President has 10 days once the bill passes to sign or veto it, making June 30 the deadline for approval. (Source)
