National Park Service Opens Bid for Floating Hotel

The National Park Service hasopened a bid for a 10-year concession contract at Lake Mead Recreation Area.

There was a site visit held in October where firms considering proposing toured the Willow Beach area, which included the marina, picnic areas, fishing areas, employment housing and the raft tour area for the Hoover Dam.

The Willow Beach area is directly below Hoover Dam, where the Colorado River feeds into Lake Mohave.

The aforementioned areas will be included in the contract.

The contract will also include a new project – a floating hotel in the marina.

NPS believes that the floating hotel would bring in more patrons to Willow Beach due to market trends.

Currently, Lake Mead has eight commercial services contracts. Private companies work alongside NPS to provide services to park visitors that the Park Service is unable to. This also expands the economic development of local communities.

The Commercial Services Program at the National Park Service sets up around 500 concession contracts annually, which brings in more than $1B. More than 25,000 people are employed during peak seasons.

The proposal with the best score will be selected. Notice of intent to propose is due Dec. 27, proposals are due Jan. 28. (Source)
