The House reconciliation bill was updated to remove Rep. Mark Amodei’s, R-Nev., amendment to sell more than 93,000 acres of public land throughout the Silver State.

The amendment was a part of the Republican-led budget package. If passed, it would have resulted in the opening of 65,129 acres of public land for sale in Clark County, 15,860 acres in Washoe County, 12,085 acres in Lyon County and more.

Opponents of the amendment drew concerns about its last-minute addition to the package and about land sale proceeds going to the federal government as opposed to state and local bodies. Amodei believed the bill was necessary to combat the housing shortage.

Rep. Dina Titus, D-Nev., eventually filed an amendment to reverse a provision in the bill. Her amendment removed the provision surrounding Clark County, but the rest of the land would have remained eligible for sale. (NVBEX; May 14; May 23)

Titus’s amendment was included in a manager’s amendment, while the entirety of Amodei’s amendment was removed. (Source)
