Pahrump Fairgrounds Water Line Moves Past First Round of CDBG Funding

The Town of Pahrump is pursuing grant funding for a water line to connect two wells at the Pahrump Fairgrounds.

The Fairgrounds spans 427 acres and was given to the Town in 1999. Since then, the Town has been planning how to create a centralized site for community amenities and events.

Current plans for the Fairgrounds include a 28.5KSF community center with basketball, racquetball and pickleball courts; a 40-acre off-highway vehicle park; five tracks; a rodeo/agriculture event center; a dozen baseball fields and eight soccer/football fields.

The Town recently completed the two wells and is now considering using the Community Development Block Grant program to obtain the majority of the necessary funding. Of the six proposals for the 2026 CDBG program, only one was chosen.

The proposals consist of:

  • Round Mountain’s request for $111K for a golf course clubhouse;
  • Round Mountain’s request for $250K for a real estate development project;
  • The Town of Tonopah’s request for $20K for an environmental review of the Tonopah Fairgrounds;
  • The Town of Pahrump’s request for $550K for the water line upgrade;
  • Metoda LLC’s Nye County-sponsored request for $200K for the planning stages of a power line upgrade in Tonopah, and
  • F.A.M. Healing Center’s Nye County-sponsored request for $355K for a rural wellness retreat in Pahrump.

The water line upgrade was selected. The Round Mountain applications were withdrawn; the Tonopah Fairgrounds environmental review and power line upgrade applications were not selected by CDBG administrators, and Nye County Commissioners denied the healing center.

Once the two wells are connected, the park will be able to better accommodate its amenities, such as pickleball courts, basketball courts and other additions.

As it stands, the eight-inch waterline is expected to be 3,600 feet. This marks the third phase of the water system at the Fairgrounds. The project consists of pipe/appurtenances, trenching, grading, engineering and inspection.

CDBG administrators will likely make the final decision on the matter this upcoming summer. (Source)
