CCSD Proposing Legislation to Stabilize Budget

Clark County School District recently voted to use its two allotted bill draft requests to make significant funding and budgetary changes.

CCSD can request two pieces of legislation each time the Nevada Legislature meets. The Legislature is scheduled to meet in February 2027.

The bills call for a changed budgeting timeline to make it more stable each year and for an increase in funding for special education programs.

School budgets are currently based on the previous quarter, meaning they are subject to student population fluctuations and, therefore, can be unpredictable. The newly proposed method would base an entire school year’s budget on the previous October.

The new budgetary process would help long-term planning and prevent disruptive midyear changes. Bill draft request forms are to be submitted by Sept. 1. (Source: Las Vegas Sun)
