The U.S. Senate has just passed the Veterans Affairs Major Medical Facility Authorization Act, a new bill that will provide funding for a new Veterans Administration hospital in Reno. The bill will now go to President Joe Biden to become law.
Prior to the legislation, plans were being made to renovate Reno’s existing VA hospital on Kirman Avenue. The bill was co-sponsored by Nevada senators Jacky Rosen and Catherine Cortez Masto, along with 10 lawmakers from other states.
Once the bipartisan bill is signed by the president, the process of planning and construction can begin for the Reno hospital.
According to the bill, construction, land acquisition and preliminary site work must not exceed $223.8M.
The U.S. House passed a similar bill back in September. Nevada Rep. Mark Amodei voted in favor of the bill. Construction details for the new hospital have yet to be released. (Source)
