(PPL Comstock Metals; Comstock Metals/Northern Nevada Business Weekly) Comstock Metals recently received its R2v3 to Appendix G and RIOS certification. The company accepts photovoltaic panels from a variety of sources, such as maintenance, construction or operation. Slightly more than a year ago, the company began processing materials at its pilot facility in Silver Springs. It has the capacity to process more than 5,000 tons annually.

Promotions

(PPL Kate Thomas; Jason Bean/Reno Gazette Journal) Kate Thomas has been appointed interim County Manager for Washoe County following a unanimous vote by the Board of Commissioners. She will serve a six-month term beginning July 1. Thomas has been with the County since 2017 and previously held leadership roles with the City of Reno and served as Nevada’s Deputy Secretary of State. A candidate for a permanent manager is expected to emerge by October, with a start date in 2026 or earlier.

(PPL David Scherer; Avison Young) David Scherer has been named Principal at Avison Young as part of the firm’s 2025 Principal Class. Based in the Las Vegas office, Scherer focuses on capital markets for office, industrial, retail and medical properties. He joined the firm in 2024 as an Executive VP and has worked in the Las Vegas commercial real estate market since 1987.

Retirements/In Memoriam/Departures

(PPL Rosemary Vassiliadis; L.E. Baskow/Las Vegas Review-Journal) Rosemary Vassiliadis will retire Sept. 12 after serving 12 years as Clark County’s Director of Aviation. She has led the airport system through significant expansions and national recognition, including designation as the TSA’s only Innovation Airport. Vassiliadis has worked in public service for 40 years and began her aviation career with the County in 1997.
