While the overall unemployment rate in the State of Nevada fell from 5.5% to 5.4%, it rose in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Statistical Area from 5.5% to 5.8%.
The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation recently released a report detailing monthly changes in unemployment.
California and Nevada were tied for last place in terms of states. The report did, however, include the District of Columbia, which had a significantly higher unemployment rate at 5.9%.
Despite a month-over-month rise in unemployment in Las Vegas, the MSA has been performing better than it did in June 2024, which had an unemployment rate of 6.0%. The labor force in the metropolitan area has risen by 28,782 people since that period.
In terms of hard data, the number of unemployed residents in the area rose by 4,474 since May, now sitting at 72,698.
Reno and Carson City Metropolitan Statistical Areas
The other two MSAs in Nevada, Reno-Sparks and Carson City, also reported increases in unemployment. Reno-Sparks jumped from 4.3% to 4.6%. Carson City, on the other hand, was more stable, only increasing from 4.3% to 4.4%.
Statewide Counties
The county with the lowest unemployment rate was White Pine County, boasting a rate of 4.1%. In contrast, the highest rate was found in Mineral County, which had a total unemployment rate of 11.4%.
The largest county in the state, Clark County, had an unemployment rate of 5.8%. Other notable entries include Nye County with 7.0% and Washoe County with 4.6%.
Cities
The five highest cities in terms of unemployment were:
- North Las Vegas at 6.2%,
- Boulder City at 6.1%,
- Las Vegas at 6.0%,
- Henderson at 5.7% and
- Mesquite at 5.6%.
