An estimated $33M renovation project to the Laughlin Lagoon on Casino Drive was recently introduced to the Laughlin Town Advisory Board.
To determine what renovations and changes to implement, the Laughlin Economic Development Corporation surveyed residents. The upgrades would occur on 45 acres of what is mostly State land. The new amenities would be next to the privately-owned Laughlin Bay Marina, which is undergoing its own renovations.
The location’s proximity to the Big Bend of the Colorado River State Recreation Area could allow the proposed amenities to be integrated into the existing park system.
Potential new additions to the area include an additional 900-1,400 covered boat slips of various sizes, sandy beach areas, restrooms, retail, food, a potential outdoor amphitheater that could accommodate a maximum of 800 people, a boat-free swimming area, sand volleyball, putting greens, soccer fields and picnic areas.
Currently, there is an insufficient supply of available boat slips to meet demand in the area.
A representative from the LEDC stated the proposal was mostly a potential of what the Town could renovate to accommodate a greater number of Lagoon attendees. The project has been in consideration for a handful of years as the survey occurred in 2018.
If Laughlin wants to pursue the project, one of the next big steps would be to conduct a feasibility study. The $33M price tag was a rough estimate from local engineers. The project would also need an entity to fund it, which could potentially be the State. No plans have been solidified or created at the time of writing.
