Groundbreakings

1. Cedar Street Companies has started construction on The Oscar, a seven-story, 236-unit apartment complex in Las Vegas’ Medical District near the SEC of Alta and Tonopah drives. The roughly one-acre site will feature a partially underground parking garage, reflecting a higher-density design than typical projects in the market. Cedar Street expects the project to be completed in 2028.

2. Jacobs Entertainment has begun work on the first phase of its Downtown Reno Amateur Sports Association fields, with initial construction focused on a soccer field on the vacant lot at 235 Ralston St. The first four fields were approved under a minor conditional use permit. The initial field is expected to host its first tournament June 6-7.

Progress Reports

3. Construction is ongoing at Thacker Pass Lithium Mine, a roughly $3B project near Orovada spanning approximately 18,000 acres. Work on key infrastructure is estimated at 10% to 20% complete, and crews have begun erecting steel for processing facilities. Lithium Americas Corp. is developing the project, Bechtel is serving as general contractor, and Sawtooth Mining is the contract miner. The project is on track to begin production by the end of 2027.

4. Steel installation is advancing at the Athletics Las Vegas Ballpark, a $2B, 33,000-seat stadium under construction on a nine-acre site on the south Strip. Crews have nearly completed the lower concourse loop and built out approximately 60% of the second-level decking, while roof trusses are now being assembled ahead of installation expected in June. The project remains on schedule for an early 2028 opening.

5. Interior renovations are underway at Caliente Depot, a 1923 building in Caliente being converted into a community and visitor center. The effort follows extensive exterior improvements completed in 2025, as the City of Caliente and volunteers prepare the space for expanded public use. The project is targeting a May opening.

Completions

6. Nevada HAND celebrated the opening of Southern Pines Family Apartments on March 26. The $87.1M affordable housing development at 10030 S. Decatur Blvd. in Las Vegas includes 240 units across eight garden-style buildings. Wells Fargo, Clark County, the Nevada Housing Division and tax-exempt bonds funded the project. As of March 18, the property housed 550 residents and will be fully leased soon.

7. The Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority officially opened the James Down Towers Apartments on March 5. The $52M project renovated 200 affordable apartment homes, along with structural, roof, waste, mechanical and electrical upgrades. The community is located at 5000 W. Alta Dr. in Las Vegas.
