Progress Reports
1. The Guitar Hotel Las Vegas at the former Mirage site recently placed its final structural beam during a topping-off ceremony hosted by Hard Rock International and Seminole Gaming. The approximately $4B redevelopment is expected to open in the second half of 2027 and includes the conversion of the Mirage into Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas. Penta Building Group and McCarthy Building Companies are overseeing construction, and Klai Juba Wald is serving as the design firm. The expanded resort will total nearly 3,600 hotel rooms, along with gaming, entertainment, dining and retail space.
2. Red Rock Resorts has begun the next expansion phase at Durango Casino & Resort in Las Vegas, with concrete work completed and steel erection expected to begin in the coming weeks. The approximately $385M addition is scheduled for completion within 18 months and will include a 36-lane bowling alley, luxury movie theater, restaurants and entertainment venues. Company officials also said future phases may include additional hotel rooms and a spa.
3. Construction on the $25M Nevada State Railroad Museum Visitor Center in Boulder City is nearing completion. Exterior work is expected to wrap up within the next several weeks. The project broke ground in December 2024 and is expected to open in September. The facility will feature exhibits, research and public gathering spaces as part of the museum’s broader expansion plan.
4. Structural steel erection is advancing at the Douglas County Justice Center in Minden, with most of the primary steel frame now in place. The nearly $47.9M CMAR project broke ground in August 2025. It is approximately 26% complete and remains on schedule for spring 2027 completion. The project is on budget, totaling $12.6M to date. CORE Construction and Douglas County secured most building materials without increased costs despite tariff and fuel cost pressures. Upcoming work includes mobilization of mechanical subcontractors, exterior metal framing and placement of the second-floor concrete slab.
5. The University of Nevada, Reno Indoor Practice Facility recently reached a topping-off milestone with the completion of the structural framework for the 72.6KSF single-story athletic training complex in Reno. Primak Construction Group is delivering the structural building shell as a design-build partner with Plenium Builders, the project’s construction manager. The facility will include a clear-span fieldhouse and a full indoor turf field for year-round collegiate athletic training. Primak Construction Group’s scope includes the pre-engineered metal building, roofing systems and insulated metal panel siding.
