Clark County officials are working with the Boring Company on reducing the regulations tied to the Vegas Loop project.
Loosening the regulations surrounding the tunnelling process is intended to speed up the construction of the tunnel system. Permitting has been a major issue plaguing the Vegas Loop. To construct the 68-mile tunnel system, the developer requires 600 permits. As of January this year, developers had only slightly more than 100. (NVBEX; Jan. 19)
Boring Co. representatives said the tunnelling process is the same at each location and argued it was rational to streamline the permitting process for the good of the local community. They equated it to a sort of master plan as opposed to individual projects.
Currently, the Vegas Loop has nine operational stations. The system is actively using 3.5 miles of tunnels and has 11 miles of tunnels available. (Source)
