The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California is eligible for $2.7M in affordable housing funding.
The funding stems from the $342M Indian Housing Block Grants,which are dedicated to Native American Tribes and Tribally Designated Housing Entities throughout the southwest.
HUD Secretary Scott Turner said the funding is a part of the Department’s goal of fighting the affordable housing crisis throughout all communities in the United States.
The IHBG program is a series of grants to provide more affordable housing opportunities throughout tribal communities. Funding can be used for increasing the housing supply, modernizing existing housing, housing services for families and individuals, crime prevention/safety and model activities. (Source)
