The North Las Vegas Council approved a nearly $3M settlement over Fire Station 53.
The Fire Station, which currently stands at Gowan Road and Simmons Street, was originally constructed in 2009. The fire station then developed cracks in the walls and slab due to it sinking into the ground.
The City discovered the issues after a six-year deadline to file a construction defect had passed. Lawmakers later changed the law in 2019 to extend the construction defect period to 10 years.
This change allowed the City of North Las Vegas to pursue legal action against the designers and contractors who were a part of the project.
The City spent roughly $5.4M on repairs, so the settlement does not fully reimburse the City for how much it spent to repair the property.
A tentative agreement has been formed that would require Nevada by Design Engineering Consultants and Ninyo & Moore, Geotechnical Consultants to pay a collective $2.5M. Stargate Plumbing, Aztech Plastering and Instant Jungle Landscape has to pay a collective $450K. JWZunino & Associates owes $10K. (Source)
