The Clark County Zoning Commission approved land-use entitlements for an expansion of Switch’s data center campus at Warm Springs Road and Edmond Street in Enterprise.
Switch is the owner, developer, architect and landscape architect. Westwood Professional Services is the civil engineer.
The expansion consists of the addition of a single data center building at 7220 Edmond St. This data center is referred to on the design documents as Switch Lasnap 19. The building will stand 37 feet tall and encompass 56.8KSF.
It will feature accessory equipment including generators, electrical equipment buildings and chiller units. Parking is located near the western and northern property lines.
Access is provided via a gate off Capovilla Avenue. Aesthetically, the data center will have a pitched roofline and vertical metal paneling. There will not be any variations in the roofline or wall plain. Additionally, there are no plans for windows.
The entrance will be defined by a metal canopy. The server/data center portion of the building is to be supported by three power rooms. Additional space will be used for shipping/receiving and staging areas, office space, restrooms and utility rooms.
In their approval, commissioners noted Switch’s modus operandi, referring to it as an example of data centers being done correctly, despite a general aversion to approving more data center projects.
Switch data centers use 100% renewable energy from the company’s own infrastructure. Additionally, Switch data centers exclusively use closed-loop systems with fluids that do not evaporate. Switch has also avoided noise complaints from its existing campus, as it owns the surrounding land, which serves as a sort of buffer.
