The City of North Las Vegas is holding a public input period for comments on plans for 7,000 acres of land in the Tule Springs East area just north of the VA Hospital and 215 Beltway.

The land is currently owned by the Bureau of Land Management. Current plans estimate the City will be in charge of 5,000 acres, while the University of Nevada, Las Vegas will receive the remaining 2,000 acres. Considerations are being made for residential neighborhoods, a satellite campus for UNLV and a job creation zone.

The UNLV campus is to be roughly six times larger than the campus on Maryland Parkway. Tentative plans include housing for graduate students and students with families, educational services for students in the military, a sports rehabilitation center, and an aquatic center.

Residents can provide input on what they would like to see in the area, any concerns they have and access methods. At this time, it is unknown when the BLM will transfer the land to the City and UNLV. Cleanup work by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is underway, as the land was previously used for military training. Current estimates expect the cleanup efforts to be complete in 2028. (Source)
