Nevada Health & Bioscience Corporation is proposing a $44M laboratory at 625 Shadow Lane in the Las Vegas Medical District.
The proposal, titled The NHBC Academic Laboratory, is intended to act as a laboratory building and blood bank for University Medical Center.
NHBC, the owner, is represented by Sletten Construction. Carpenter Sellers Del Gatto Architects is the architect. Whiting Turner Contracting Company is the general contractor.
The two-story building is expected to be 34KSF. The blood donation center will be located on the ground floor, while the top floor will be a dedicated laboratory for UMC.
More specifically, UMC plans to use the space for microbiology/virology, tuberculosis identification, stem cell processing, drug toxicology and as a molecular lab. It will also allow the University of Nevada, Las Vegas’ medical school to expand its pathology residency programs and fellowships.
The new medical facility is part of the growing effort to expand medical services in southern Nevada.
The building is funded via a public-private-nonprofit partnership. This is comprised of $35M from a State of Nevada American Rescue Plan Act grant and a $9M grant from the City of Las Vegas’ general fund. Additional funds will be procured from NHBC and UMC.
The site is currently undergoing grading, which is expected to be completed within the next 18 months. (Source)
