The Nevada Contractors Association honored the following Southern Nevada projects during its 2026 Contractor of the Year Awards:
The Nevada Department of Transportation received a 2026 Western Region America’s Transportation Award from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials for the $386M I-15/Tropicana Interchange Project in Clark County. The project replaced a 1964 interchange and modernized one of the busiest gateways to the Las Vegas Strip, earning top honors in the Operations Excellence category for large projects.
The Clark County Department of Aviation will begin repaving the Airport Connector Tunnel on July 31, with work in both northbound and southbound tunnels starting Aug. 10. The project will require temporary lane reductions throughout construction and is expected to be completed by the end of December.
Aldi is expanding its Las Vegas Valley footprint with a new store under construction at Horizon Pointe Shopping Center in Henderson. The location at 2650 W. Horizon Ridge Pkwy. will occupy part of a former Albertsons and is expected to open by the end of the year as the retailer’s fifth store in the valley.
Work is continuing on the $1.3M Industrial Way Reconstruction Project in Gardnerville, where crews have shifted to nighttime operations as they prepare the roadway for new pavement. Qualcon Contractors began work July 6, with paving expected to be completed by Aug. 12.
Vaughn Middle School will open Aug. 6 at 1200 Yori Ave. in Reno. The new three-story campus replaces the existing school as part of the Washoe County School District‘s Facility Modernization Plan and includes a Family Resource Center, collaborative student hubs, a media center, 52 teaching stations and a gymnasium.
A ribbon-cutting is scheduled Aug. 5 for Stead Elementary School, a new campus at 926 Cloudburst Dr. in Reno. The replacement school was built on a Washoe County School District-owned site as part of the district’s Facility Modernization Plan and includes a STEAM lab, media center, group learning spaces and enhanced classrooms.
Club Fortune Casino celebrated the reopening of its renovated North Las Vegas property, formerly the Poker Palace. The project included exterior façade improvements supported by a $75,000 grant from the North Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency.
