The Carson City Parks and Recreation Commission discussed a concept design for a new 10-acre park within the Lompa Ranch North Specific Plan Area at its Dec. 3 meeting.
The area is currently under development and located within central Carson City, just north of East 5th Street and south of Highway 50. The SPA has land on both the east and west sides of Highway 50.
Designs are being created for a 10-acre park on the west side and a three-acre park on the east side. Commissioners only discussed the 10-acre park at the meeting. The 10-acre park is bounded to the north, south and west by medium-density residential land, and to the east by Highway 50.
The housing portion of the plan is limited until approval and construction of the park; the 750th residential unit will not receive a certification of occupancy until the park is constructed.
The area also must include a “meandering path” that will be constructed along a north/south route that connects 5th Street to the northern boundary of the area. An east/west multi-use path also must be constructed to connect 5th Street with the eastern portion of the development and connect the park and recreation facilities with the development.
Plan provisions indicate the park must be maintained through a Landscape Maintenance District. The park is to prioritize joint use of park/open space facilities, as well as the incorporation of at least one dog park. A water feature, such as a splash pad, must also be included.
The draft design features a “ranch themed” children’s play area fitted with shade structures aligned with the aesthetic. A historical section including three interpretive panels regarding the history of Lompa Ranch and the Lompa family was also present in the draft.
The draft also included a concrete monument sign, bench, bike rack, pet waste station and a restroom enclosure accessible to those with disabilities. A grassy area will be included for soccer. A native/undisturbed park area was also included for “informal use.”
Project documents indicate Blackstone Development Group is the developer of the Lompa Ranch North SPA. JKAE is the master land planner and the park was designed by L.A. Studio Nevada.
The Commission is allowing public input on the design. (Source)
