Construction is underway on an approximately $1B transmission project by GridLiance West, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Transmission LLC. The line will add approximately 155 miles of 230-kilovolt and 500-kilovolt transmission lines across Clark and Nye counties. The project broke ground Sept. 8 in Jean and will also build new substations and upgrade existing facilities along the west side of the Spring Mountains from Las Vegas to Pahrump and Indian Springs. Valley Electric Association will serve as operating partner, with the upgraded transmission lines expected to enter service by 2028.
Clark County School District broke ground Sept. 8 on the $150M replacement of James Cashman Middle School on Desert Inn Road near Decatur Blvd. in Las Vegas. The project will replace the existing school, which was dedicated in 1966, with a consolidated pre-K-8 campus. CCSD previously put the rebuild on hold in 2024, as rising construction costs prompted the district to reassess its construction plans. The new campus is scheduled to open for the 2028-2029 school year.
The City of Las Vegas broke ground Sept. 9 on the $8.4M Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Training Center at 633 N. Mojave Road in east Las Vegas. Funded through the City’s capital improvement funds, the multi-phase project will begin with site and utility improvements and construction of training areas designed to replicate an urban environment. A second phase will add structures modeled after single-family homes, strip malls and commercial storage buildings. The 16-month first phase is expected to reach substantial completion July 14, 2027.
The $70M, 180KSF Henderson Sports & Social development is nearing completion on Maryland Pkwy. South of St. Rose Pkwy. in Henderson. The two-level complex includes four full-sized basketball courts, two indoor turf fields, a 30KSF entertainment area, restaurant, fitness center and event space. The City of Henderson contributed $60M to the project, with partner KemperSports contributing $10M. The facility is scheduled to host its first event Oct. 1, with a public opening Oct. 5 and grand opening Oct. 16.
KB Home opened the first phase of Sandstone for home sales, marking a milestone for the nearly 300-acre development north of the 215 Beltway-North Fifth Street interchange in North Las Vegas. More than 1,500 one- and two-story single-family homes and two-story townhouses are planned in Sandstone, along with parks and trails. KB Home acquired the land for the 200-acre community for approximately $91M in late 2024.
Suncoast Hotel and Casino is nearing completion of a property-wide modernization that Boyd Gaming began in late 2023. The resort is located near Alta Drive and Rampart Blvd. Renovations have progressed throughout the casino and other areas of the property, with work on the hotel rooms, gift shop and bowling center still underway. A grand reopening is scheduled for Sept. 29, and hotel room renovations are expected to finish by the end of the year. Boyd Gaming did not disclose the project cost.
