The Forever One Memorial recently reached roughly 10% of its funding.
The Vegas Memorial Fund was created by Clark County officials last year. Funds will go toward the creation of a permanent memorial to honor victims of the shooting that occurred on Oct. 1, 2017.
The memorial is designed by JCJ Architecture. According to JCJ’s website, Lifescapes International is the landscape architect. Thinc Design is the museum & exhibit designer, Lochsa Engineering is the structural and civil engineer. Bear Label Consulting Engineers is the M/E/P engineer, and Lighting Design Alliance is the lighting consultant.
The memorial is expected to cost $40M, and the fundraiser has accumulated $4M. Fund organizers are exploring receiving additional money from grants at the state and federal level, as well as private donations.
Original designs pegged the memorial at $70M. Officials stated they are trying to find a way to create an effective and affordable memorial.
The memorial is to be located on the same site where the shooting occurred. Upon approval of the design, MGM Resorts International donated the two acres which it is proposed.
The current design calls for a 58-foot lit tower. It will additionally feature 58 candles to represent each of the victims. There will also be a convening area, an infinity path and a remembrance wall.
The Las Vegas Golden Knights donated $1M to the fund. Clark County donated an additional $1M. In May, more than 70 community members lobbied to receive more funding but were ultimately unsuccessful.
Officials are now considering turning to a nationwide approach to raise the remaining funds.
Pavers are available for purchase to memorialize loved ones on the path of remembrance. Pavers will be priced at $500 and $1,000, respectively.
The memorial is anticipated to break ground halfway through 2026 with an intended opening by 2027. (Source)
