Groundbreakings

1.

Clark County broke ground May 18 on a $93M fire station and training complex at 4425 W. Tropicana Ave. in Las Vegas. The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company will demolish the existing training facility and build new structures on the 6.3-acre site. The project will include an 8.4KSF fire station, a two-story training center, a premanufactured burn tower, a maintenance building for vehicles and a multistory parking garage. Completion is expected in 2028.

Bizuayehu Tesfaye/Las Vegas Review-Journal) On June 15, Mortenson Development will break ground on a roughly $150M dual-branded hotel project. The 18-story development, located on Paradise Road near the Las Vegas Convention Center, will include 397 rooms under the AC Hotel and Residence Inn brands and will be built adjacent to the existing SpringHill Suites hotel. Mortenson is serving as the developer and has secured construction financing for the project. Completion is scheduled for summer 2028.

The Nevada Adventure Center is scheduled to open Oct. 7 at the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce property in Boulder City. Construction began last fall on the facility, which will house more than a dozen outdoor recreation and tour operators in one location. The project is part of a collaborative effort between state, federal and local entities, including the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce. The center and another being built in Carson City carry a combined development cost of $7M.

Completions

4.

The City of Henderson completed a $100M upgrade to the Kurt R. Segler Water Reclamation Facility. Construction began in 2024, and the improvements went online in April. The project increased the facility’s wastewater treatment capacity from 32 million gallons per day to 44 million gallons per day, supporting Southern Nevada’s water recycling system and return-flow credits to Lake Mead. The project was funded through Henderson’s City Sewer Enterprise Fund.

Quarterra has opened Arca, a 356-unit apartment community that was rebuilt after a 2023 fire destroyed the partially completed development and caused an estimated $100M in damage. The complex is at 8030 W. Maule Ave. in Las Vegas. The multifamily development includes units ranging from 707SF to 1.3KSF and is Quarterra’s first multifamily project in Las Vegas. Cushman & Wakefield is handling leasing for the property.

6.

The Afton at Sparks Marina recently celebrated its grand opening in Sparks. The senior living community includes 142 one- and two-bedroom units, a clubhouse, recreation room and fitness rooms in each building. Metcalf Builders, Inc. served as the general contractor. WHA | Architects was the architect, and Wood Rodgers, Inc. provided engineering services. FJ Management and the Nevada Housing Division were project partners.

7.

The Arlington Avenue Bridges Project has been completed in Reno. Construction began in May 2025 and finished in just more than one year, approximately one year ahead of the original two-season schedule. Granite Construction served as the general contractor. The project was completed with an estimated $5M in savings, and the north bridge opened to the public on June 9.

8.

The City of Mesquite has opened Mesquite Fire Station No. 2 at 1105 Horizon Blvd. The $7.8M facility will serve the Sun City area and house six firefighters. Shaw-Lundquist Construction was the general contractor, and Simpson Coulter Studio was the architect. The project broke ground in June 2025, and the station began responding to calls on June 9.
