Planning Commission Recommends Home2 Suites Near Sparks Marina

The Sparks Planning Commission recently approved a building and grading permit for Sparks Hotel Partners LLC’s planned Home2 Suites by Hilton at 1050 Scheels Drive in The Outlets at Legends shopping center.

Plans call for a 66.7KSF, four-story building with 109 rooms. Planned amenities include a saline pool, a “Spin2 Cycle” gym, a mini market and an outdoor patio with a grilling area and fire pits.

The April 17 Planning Commissionagenda lists Vanzeben Architecture as the applicant. Vanzeben Architecture is also serving as the design architect, as reflected by the submitted elevations.

The parcel is 1.48 acres and zoned New Urban District with a Mixed-Use District/Mixed-Use Commercial land use. No change requests have been submitted for the zoning or land use.

Aesthetically, the building design focuses on lighter, neutral colors. Bolder and more saturated colors will be used to accent certain areas of the property.

This marks the third hotel located on the west side of the shopping center near the Sparks Marina. Immediately north of the site sit an existing Hampton Inn & Suites and a Residence Inn.

This will also serve as the second Home2 Suites in the area, with another in Reno’s Meadowood Mall. Home2 Suites are designed to have a home-like interior and are fitted with a kitchen. Home2 Suites are also pet friendly.

The building permit was filed on April 12, while a grading permit was filed on April 8. A third permit is expected for the swimming pool.
