In a recent presentation to the Clark County Commission, Clark County Aviation officials discussed major plans for renovating Harry Reid International Airport.
As Las Vegas plans for continued growth and increasing numbers of major events, both infrastructure and user experiences are key concerns.
Director of Aviation James Chrisley said aging infrastructure is worrisome. As just one example, the A and B gates at Harry Reid are around 50 years old.
The presentation featured a modernization plan focused on both capacity and efficiency.
Renovations to Terminal 3 will be a major project, according to Chrisley. The ticketing level will be reconfigured to allow the airport to implement 30 new ticket counters within the existing building footprint.
Terminal 1 will also see significant redevelopment, including concessions upgrades, additional restrooms, bigger passenger hold rooms, and advanced systems for security and baggage.
Another key focus is transportation improvements. Terminal-to-terminal flyovers will be created to separate internal circulation from commuter traffic, and a single-point urban interchange will improve safety and uncomplicate traffic flow around the airport.
Officials anticipate severe capacity constraints at Harry Reid within the next seven years if long-term solutions are not implemented. (Source)
