The second half of the Reimagine Boulder Highway transportation project is still years away, with the earliest groundbreaking slated for 2030 if funding becomes readily available.
The totality of Reimagine Boulder Highway spans 15 miles. The first half of Henderson is actively undergoing construction and is scheduled to be completed next year.
The second half, located north of the first, differs in that it involves Clark County, the City of Las Vegas, the Regional Transportation Commission and the Nevada Department of Transportation.
The RTC is currently conducting an environmental study and preliminary planning for the northern portion of the highway improvement project. Once the environmental study is complete, the RTC will be eligible to apply for federal grants to fund the project.
Clark County Public Works Director Denis Cederburg estimates the second half of the project will cost somewhere around $300M, meaning federal funding is likely required to move the project along. Official cost estimates will be released after the initial planning/engineering phase, which is expected to end next spring.
The City of Henderson started working on its half of the project in summer 2024. The $184M stretch is expected to be completed halfway through next year. It will reduce the number of lanes in favor of widened sidewalks, elevated bike lanes and a bus rapid transit system. (Source: Las Vegas Review-Journal)
