The proposed Red Rock Communications Center is moving forward after recent approvals from the Clark County Board of County Commissioners, Las Vegas City Council and North Las Vegas City Council.

The communications center will, once constructed, stand two stories tall. It is planned on a 66.3-acre plot of federally owned land near the NEC of Rome Blvd. and Shaumber Road. The project consists of a 97KSF building reaching 55 feet tall, as well as two 100-foot communication towers.

The land is owned by the federal government, while the City of Las Vegas intends to acquire the property. Tactical Design Nevada PC is both the architect and representative. SLA Land Architects is the landscape architect

The communications center will hold 911 dispatchers with the Metropolitan Police Department and municipal fire departments. Regarding the project, the police department said, “The Red Rock Communications Center will serve as a cutting-edge, joint communications facility designed to strengthen and modernize 911 services across geographically diverse locations. Once completed, the center will bring together multiple agencies under one roof to enable seamless connectivity, ensure mission-critical redundancy, and improve emergency response services.”

The city councils and commissioners recently approved a 50-year agreement that gives Metro the responsibility of maintaining the facility. It will also oversee billing, and each municipality will be charged based on its respective use. Additionally, the police department will lead construction efforts.

As the project is still in its early stages, the design, funding and timeline are all subject to change. (Source)
