The Boulder City City Council has written an appeal letter after unanimously voting to act against the Townsite Solar II data center proposed on nearby federally owned land.
Townsite Solar II was initially proposed by Skyler Capital Management on an 88.5-acre site within Boulder City limits. After the Planning Commission recommended denial of the development, the developer withdrew the application and resubmitted it on federal land.
The Bureau of Land Management then granted its initial approval of the project without allowing public input, which is typically required per the National Environmental Policy Act. NVBEX has extensively covered this project.
Skylar Capital Management previously received approval to build a solar farm and then amended its permit to change the land use for a data center. BLM officials decided the environmental review that had already been conducted for the solar farm was sufficient for the data center.
