The Washoe County Board of County Commissioners entered into an agreement with DOWL, LLC to design a new outdoor amphitheater at the Rancho San Rafael Regional Park during its March 17 meeting.
The project was listed as one of the “high priority” community projects in the Rancho San Rafael Regional Plan 2024 Master Plan. Construction costs are estimated between $10M to $15M.
The new amphitheater is expected to be constructed in the southeastern portion of the Reno-based park. It will sit near the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden near the dog park and field.
The amphitheater is intended to accommodate performances and events. Potential elements include a covered pavilion, a picnic area and space for food trucks and picnic tables. The amphitheater will be able to serve around 2,000 to 2,500 people.
DOWL has already prepared renderings for the projects. The County has already paid the company $132K for the renderings, and its agreement will result in an additional $866K.
As of February, the Commission and the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada entered into an agreement that allows the Foundation to accept funds on behalf of the County for the amphitheater.
The current timeline suggests the design will be 60% complete by Oct. 31. (Source)
