The City of Carson City recently announced the planned Carson City Hall, part of the Hop and Mae Adams Foundation’s proposed Downtown Revitalization Project Phase I, will not materialize.

The project was intended to be a public-private partnership between the City and the Foundation. It would have resulted in a new City Hall building and its accompanying parking garage.

Frame Architecture was the design firm, while Metcalf Builders, Inc. was selected as the general contractor. This project has appeared in several NVBEX articles.

According to a press release released by the City, “Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of both parties, necessary terms critical to a successful partnership ultimately could not be met.”

The release goes on to say, “As a result, the City Manager will coordinate with City staff and the Board of Supervisors to explore other potentially viable options for the purpose of securing alternate office space to accommodate the needs of the City.”

Other reports indicate the project was canceled due to financial issues stemming from interest rates on tax-exempt bonds. The rates have been steadily rising; in June, they were 5% and now sit at 5.7%.

Project representatives also stated they plan to continue to work on the parking garage regardless of the City’s participation.
