Groundbreakings

1. The Arizona Department of Transportation announced work has begun on a widening project for U.S. Highway 93. The entire long-term project will see the road link between Las Vegas and Phoenix. The $81M portion of the project will widen four miles of U.S. 93 between Wikieup and Interstate 40. Work is expected to finish in 2027.

2. KB Acquisitions began constructing its 207-unit apartment complex near Washington and Stewart streets in Carson City. Altair Apartments is the first development to arise on the previously vacant parcel. The complex will feature seven studios, 121 one bedrooms and 79 two bedrooms. The apartments are to be spread across five residential buildings.

3. Construction crews began reconstruction efforts of the 17KSF retail center at 4080 Paradise Road in Las Vegas. Construction is expected to finish by Q3 this year. The former Rodeo Paradise plaza burned down on Nov. 29, 2021. Colliers’ Areeba Moten is the leasing agent for the property.

Progress Reports

4. Ashley Furniture announced its 273.2KSF showroom and distribution center near Ikea in Las Vegas is nearing completion. Ashley purchased the site in 2020 for $27M. The project is expected to open in May, with further details being released as the completion date approaches.

5. Reconstruction efforts on Kaktus Life Apartments at 8030 W. Maule Ave. in Las Vegas have commenced. The mixed-use project plans for more than 600 apartments and 2.5KSF of retail on approximately 16 acres. The project burned down in 2023 when it was nearly three-fourths of the way through the construction process. Tru Development Co. is the developer.

6. The City of Carson City announced the Fire Station 55 and Emergency Operations Center near Butti Way is expected to complete this summer. The project cost the City a total of $18.4M. On Thursday, the Carson Board of Supervisors considered spending an additional $476.1K on technological equipment to support the new facility.

Completions

7. The ER at South Summerlinat 10290 W. Flamingo Road in Las Vegas officially opened. The 24-hour emergency care facility is an extension of Summerlin Hospital. The new ER contains treatment/exam rooms, a decontamination room, laboratory space, CT scanner/imaging equipment and new entrances. Valley Health System is the owner of Summerlin Hospital.
