Intermountain Health Releases Update on Planned Children’s Hospital

Intermountain Health announced The Penta Building Group and Jacobsen Construction have been selected as the general contractors for the company’s planned children’s hospital on 34 acres at the University of Nevada, Las VegasHarry Reid Research and Technology Park.

Shepley Bulfinch and Gensler are the design firms attached to Intermountain’s planned hospital. While the project is still in the design phase, estimates show it will be around 710KSF and feature more than 200 beds.

The hospital intends to increase the number of medical specialists in southern Nevada. Currently, families often must travel out-of-state to receive specialized medical care. In fact, more than $123M has gone to out-of-state medical providers.

The Children’s Hospital is part of Nevada’s effort to further strengthen its struggling healthcare sector. NVBEX discussed the industry further as well as 24 other notable things to know about the A/E/C industry in the Silver State. (NVBEX: March 3)

The Jan. 31 issue of NVBEX featured a magazine-exclusive article discussing the economic impact of the planned hospital. Initial estimates from Applied Analysis predict the hospital will have an $841M annual economic output.

The five years of construction are expected to spur Nevada’s economy by $724M. Upon its completion, the hospital is expected to employ roughly 1,334 people.

Groundbreaking is expected to occur early next year, with construction running until 2030. On top of design work, Intermountain Health is in the process of planning clinical activities and recruitment efforts.
