$42M in U.S. Department of Interior Funds Advance Two Churchill County Projects

Draft plan for Churchill County Ball Parks; Credit: Lumos & Associates/Churchill County

By CJ Jorgensen for NEVBEX

The U.S. Department of the Interior awarded Churchill County $42M in funding for improvements at the 3C Event Complex, located at 227 Sheckler Road in Fallon just off the US 95,and the North Maine Street Ball Parks, located at 376 N. Maine St., also in Fallon.

The funding was sourced from Bureau of Land Management Las Vegas Valley land sales under the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act.

In early spring of 2023, the County submitted three projects for consideration as part of SNPLMA’s Round 20 submittal process. The Event Complex and Ball Parks were recommended to the Department of the Interior for final approval.

The funds will allow the County to begin multiple transformative improvements to the two locations. According to Anne McMillin, Churchill County’s public information officer, approximately $32M is designated for the 3C Event Center, while the remaining approximately $10M is designated for the Ballfields.

The 3C Event Center improvements include:

  • Construction of a covered equestrian area,
  • Expansion of existing arenas,
  • Implementation of RV hook-ups,
  • General beautification,
  • ADA/safety upgrades, and
  • Renovations of the multipurpose building, bathrooms, concessions, splash pad, shade structures, playground areas, parking, biking/walking paths and seating areas.

The North Maine Street Ball Parks improvements will replace existing ball field infrastructure to update/expand efficient facilities including:

  • Fields,
  • Concessions,
  • Restrooms,
  • Field house,
  • Splash pads,
  • Biking/walking paths, and
  • Paved parking.

Draft improvement plans for both projects have been drawn up by Lumos & Associates. The projects have not yet gone out for bid, according to McMillin.

Renovations will begin in the coming months.
