The Bureau of Land Management has labeled the massive Esmeralda 7 solar project as canceled on its National Environmental Policy Act Register.
Esmeralda 7 consisted of seven solar projects planned on approximately 62K acres. Notably, around 119K acres of land were to be used to accommodate rights-of-way and other necessities.
The solar developments would have accounted for a capacity of 6.2K megawatts, which is enough to power roughly 2M homes. Esmeralda 7 was planned near the NV Energy Greenlink project.
The review process of the seven projects began in 2023. Conservationists and residents expressed concerns with the project. The first environmental impact statement was slated for April but was delayed by the Trump administration.
This comes as the administration has rolled back utility-scale solar tax credits that were initially planned to sunset at the end of 2032.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported individual companies must resubmit federal documents separately.
