Nevada’s senators announced more than $5M in funds from the Inflation Reduction Act are being directed toward upgrading the water systems of three Nevada tribes.
Reservations in Nevada are usually remote and frequently lack proper water treatment facilities and infrastructure. The Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe in Fallon was awarded approximately $3.8M. The funds will assist in the reservation’s water distribution/treatment system.
The Shoshone-Paiute Tribes of the Duck Valley Reservation are also set to receive funds. The tribes are located near the Idaho border. The funding will provide the reservation with more than $1.5M to tap 88 homes into local water lines. Currently, homes receive water from shallow private water wells.
The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, located just northeast of Reno, will receive approximately $30K to prevent water contamination.
A statement from Senator Jacky Rosen said, “This funding will help support Tribal communities’ water infrastructure and improve their access to reliable drinking water.” (Source)
