The new northern Nevada Veterans Affairs hospital is likely to be located at the University of Nevada, Reno’s proposed site toward the north end of the campus.
The site is reportedly the only finalist for Reno’s portion of the nearly $3.4B 2024 Veterans Affairs Major Medical Facility Authorization Act. The bill, which passed in the U.S. Senate in November, provides for 11 VA construction projects throughout the nation.
Current plans consist of building the new hospital and shutting down the current VAhospital on Kirman Avenue. If built on UNR’s campus, the new facility would make the northern portion of the campus a “medical hub.”
The VA would need to purchase the land from the Nevada System of Higher Education to construct the hospital. The site being considered is along McCarran Blvd. between Virginia Street and Evans Avenue. UNR has already identified 40 acres of the anticipated 50-acre facility.
The site will officially be chosen by the Department of Veterans Affairs early next year. (Source)
