Groundbreakings
1. Western Nevada College has begun a multi-million-dollar renovation of Pinon Hall on its Fallon campus to expand its nursing and allied health programs. The project must be completed by Sept. 30. The project is funded in part by $24M from the federal Health Resources Service Administration and $1M from the William N. Pennington Foundation, with additional support from the E.L. Cord Foundation. CORE Construction is serving as the contractor on the renovation.
Progress Reports
2. Foundation work is complete on the $2B, 33,000-seat domed Athletics Las Vegas Ballpark on the Las Vegas Strip. Mortenson-McCarthy reported the stadium remains on schedule to open before the 2028 season. Officials said the team has spent $300M to date, and vertical construction is ongoing, including work on buttresses, the lower suite level and main concourse.
3. Granite Construction is underway on the $86M second phase of the Sparks Blvd. Widening Project, a 2.5-mile expansion from the I-80 westbound ramps to Baring Blvd. in Sparks. The project will add one travel lane in each direction along the corridor and includes sidewalks, soundwalls, multi-use path improvements and storm drainage upgrades. The project is expected to be completed in June 2027.
4. Cherry Development expects to open Share Westside, a five-story, 104-unit apartment complex at the NEC of Jefferson Avenue and D Street in Las Vegas’ Historic Westside, by the end of May. The one-bedroom units average approximately 580SF. The building includes approximately 7KSF of ground-floor retail space leased to the Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency, which is also leasing the adjacent Good Word Social Club, an 8.9KSF commercial project that just underwent a ceremonial groundbreaking.
5. Ellis Island has entered the third and final phase of its $35M expansion and renovation project near the corner of Koval Lane and Flamingo Road in Las Vegas. The final phase includes renovations to the Karaoke Bar, Ellis Island BBQ and Village Pub and Café. Completion is expected later this year. Earlier phases expanded and modernized the casino floor, added a high-limit area and center bar, and introduced a digital exterior facade and The Deck Rooftop Bar.
6. MGM Resorts International is in the process of renovating the south pool at Luxor Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. Crews have demolished the existing pool and begun construction on a new pool area with expanded deck space. A demolition permit valued at $220K was issued in December, but no project timeline or total cost has been officially disclosed.
Completions
7. Caesars Entertainment Inc. will open its first Caesars Race & Sportsbook location in Summerlin on March 3 at The Resort at Summerlin in Las Vegas. The sportsbook is located in the former Rampart casino space, and the company plans to invest in capital upgrades and install 20 kiosks as part of the buildout.
