The Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents approved a land easement to create a Vegas Loop station at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
The Board of Regents considered the easement during its March 6 meeting. A specific location has yet to be determined for the station. Once the location is selected, it will need another approval from the Board of Regents.
While the specific location has yet to be determined, it is likely that it will be toward the southwestern end of UNLV near the Thomas & Mack Center and the sports arena.
The easement approval comes after UNLV had denied a potential Loop station, citing potential issues with parking enforcement. University officials are worried the station may lead to the parking lots turning into a sort of park-and-ride.
Controversies surrounding the company have led to opposition by some students. (NVBEX; Jan. 19)
The Boring Co., the developer of the Vegas Loop project, intends to create 104 stations throughout Las Vegas. Currently, eight locations are operational. The Vegas Loop will stretch for 68 miles and is expected to be completed sometime between 2028 and 2029.
The Boring Co. will handle all costs related to the station. Additionally, UNLV students will receive reduced ticket prices.
