Groundbreakings

1. Preparation work is underway for the Hobart Reservoir Dam rehabilitation project, which will improve the safety and reliability of the dam as part of the Marlette Lake Water System. The reservoir will remain closed to fishing and recreation through the 2026 summer season, with construction expected to finish in July 2027. The project includes replacing the existing earthen dam, spillway improvements and upgrades to discharge piping and outlet valves. The Federal Emergency Management Agency Pre-Disaster Mitigation Fund is funding the project.

2. Lennar Corporation has started site work on The West End, a 373-lot residential development on nearly 36.5 acres at Rancho Drive and Coran Lane in North Las Vegas. The project will include townhomes, single-family homes and a central park area. The development is part of the broader Hylo Park redevelopment of the former Texas Station and Fiesta Rancho sites.

3. Veritas Preparatory School recently broke ground on a campus expansion that will add two new classrooms for fifth/sixth-grade and seventh/eighth-grade students. Hammond Homes and Construction is overseeing the project, which is expected to finish before the start of the upcoming school year.

4. Southern Land Company has started pre-leasing at Gemma, a 337-unit apartment project at California Avenue and Third Street in the Las Vegas Arts District. The development consists of three seven-story buildings with ground-floor retail and restaurant space. The developer expects first move-ins next month.

5. The West Henderson Fieldhouse, under construction at the corner of St. Rose and Maryland parkways, is now officially named Henderson Sport & Social. The facility will include basketball and volleyball courts, indoor turf fields, fitness space and entertainment amenities. A grand opening is planned for October.

The project includes improved pedestrian walkways, lighting and access to Wingfield Park. Separately, the City of Reno’s Riverside Drive berm project is expected to finish on June 19. The flood-protection project includes berm stabilization, a new 10-ft-wide accessible pathway and riverbank erosion improvements along the Truckee River.
