Giving Back
1. NAIOPpartnered with Walter V. Long Elementary School to hold a Thanksgiving meal drive for students and families. The company’s goal was to provide 40 local families with a Thanksgiving meal and 30 days of groceries. Donations were dropped off to Minero General Contractor from Nov. 12-Nov. 14.
Awards & Accolades
2. Beth Johnson was the recipient of the 2024 Nevada Top Workplaces Women-Led Company Award. Johnson’s company, Absolute Flood Response, specializes in restoration and remediation services. Johnson also offers AFR University, a series of courses and an apprenticeship program aimed toward training young people to participate in trades.
3. The National Association for the Self-Employee announced American Resurfacingas the recipient of the $4K 2Q Growth Grant,sponsored by AARP. American Resurfacing focuses on bathtub refinishing, countertop resurfacing and cabinet painting. Funds will reportedly be used to improve the quality and efficiency of American Resurfacing’s services.
Boards & Commissions
4. Pete Goicoechea, former Nevada Senator, has been appointed to the Nevada Board of Regents by Governor Joe Lambardo. Goicoechea will represent District 8, which consists of parts of Clark, Elko, Esmeralda, Eureka, Lincoln, Nye and White Pine counties. The Board of Regents oversees Nevada’s higher education system.
5. Lauren Tripphas been approved as Chief Internal Auditor by the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents. Tripp previously served in the role in an interim capacity since August 2023. She has more than 17 years of auditing experience.
New Hires
6. Rebecca Hallhas been appointed as the Community Engagement Manager for the Nevada Mining Association. Hall will oversee community engagement throughout Nevada and support the communications and government relations teams to promote programs, education, membership and advocacy.
