Unemployment Decreases in Northern Nevada During March

Of the three metropolitan areas in Nevada, the Carson City Metropolitan Statistical Area was found to have the lowest unemployment rate.

The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported the Carson City area has an unemployment rate of 4.5%. The seasonally adjusted statewide unemployment rate fell from 5.8% to 5.7% on a month-over-month basis from February to March.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Statistical Area had an unemployment rate of 5.6%, while the Reno Metropolitan Statistical Area had an unemployment rate of 4.7%.

The lowest overall unemployment rate was found in Elko County, which had an unemployment rate of 4.3%. Mineral County demonstrated the highest unemployment rate at 9.6%.

In February, the Carson City Metropolitan Statistical Area reported an unemployment rate of 4.8%. The number of unemployed individuals in the MSA decreased by 90 MoM. The MSA has a labor force of 30,131 people, which displays a MoM increase of 169 workers.

The MSA also had an unemployment rate of 4.8% in March 2024, non-seasonally adjusted. There are 63 fewer unemployed residents than there were in March 2024.

The Reno MSA decreased by 0.2% on a MoM basis and by 0.1% on a non-seasonally adjusted YoY basis. The number of unemployed residents decreased by 648 people MoM. Current measures indicate the MSA has 14,328 unemployed residents. This reflects a 92-person reduction in unemployment YoY.

Reno’s labor force is currently comprised of 307,759 workers. This demonstrates a MoM increase of 1,172 workers and a YoY increase of 8,939 people. (Source)
