The Sloan Canyon Conservation and Lateral Pipeline Act passed the U.S. House of Representatives in a voice vote this week.
The bill would allow for the construction of a new water pipeline in southern Nevada and allow the Southern Nevada Water Authority to tunnel under the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area for part of the project.
The legislation also adds 9,290 acres to the Conservation Area to enhance and preserve desert landscapes.
Members of the State’s Congressional delegation say the measure will improve water reliability and protect against future disruptions.
A companion bill has been introduced in the Senate by U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto. (Source)
