The Carson City Planning Commission approved the Carson City Public Works Department’s request for a new tipping station at the City landfill during its Jan. 28 meeting.
The approved project will be 18.5KSF. The approval also includes additional site work. The landfill is located at 3600 Flint Dr. and is part of the public regional zoning district. Rolluda Architects, Inc. designed the tipping station.
The application indicates the station will be part of the 172.3-acre landfill. According to a justification letter from the Public Works Department, conceptual designs were completed in September 2023.
The tipping station is a building that collects solid waste and holds it until it can be consolidated and hauled off to a different location for its proper disposal. Additionally, it will serve as a location for the public to bring their waste directly to the landfill, which is intended to increase operational efficiency.
The three-sided structure will be 105 feet by 170 feet. Infrastructure improvements consist of road improvements, grading and utility work. Construction costs are estimated at $6M.
Aesthetically, the building aims to capture the same style as existing City-owned facilities by using materials and colors similar to other municipal structures.
The landfill will remain operational during the construction process.
