Truckee Meadows Community College is planning a two-phase, roughly $11.5M Fire Rescue Training Tower at its Redfield Campus near Wedge Parkway in south Reno.
ARCaDESMA architecture is the design firm attached to the project. The Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents is the owner, with TMCC providing development assistance. The community college is planning to release a request for proposals soon.
The Board of Regents recently approved the fire training center. Phase One of the project is estimated at $1.5M and could be operable as early as 2027.
Current estimations peg Phase Two at roughly $9M to $10M. Funding for this phase has yet to be secured. Once TMCC releases its RFP, it will have a better grasp of exactly how much the facility will cost. The community college expects to put in roughly $3M from institutional funding.
Phase Two will feature a fire academy training center with apparatus bays exceeding 14KSF. This will allow training equipment to be stored indoors to protect it from extreme weather conditions.
The training center will utilize simulated flames and fog machines to serve as adverse conditions.
TMCC students currently train at Carson City Fire Station 52. This costs the college roughly $65K each year for leasing fees. (Source)
