Reno Moves to Extend Data Center Moratorium Through August 2027
NVBEX Staff
The Reno City Council has approved an extension of its data center moratorium until Aug. 31, 2027.
If the City Code is updated, the moratorium will be able to be lifted. Council approved the extension on a 6-1 vote after listening to public comments and staff presentations. Councilwoman Kathleen Taylor was the sole no vote.
Unanimously, however, Council voted to start investigating what changes to implement into the code regarding data centers.
There are currently six data centers in Reno. Data centers actively undergoing the review process and construction will not be affected by the moratorium. The pause only applies to new applications.
The extension is intended to run past the upcoming session of the Nevada Legislature, which could produce sweeping, state-wide changes. (Source: Reno Gazette-Journal)
