The Carson City Board of Supervisors met to discuss a handful of revisions to the planned Carson City Courthouse Expansion project on Thursday, Sept. 4.
The City of Carson City is required to expand its courthouse once its population reaches 60,000 individuals. TSK Architects is the design firm. NVBEX previously discussed the proposed courthouse in a magazine-exclusive article in June.
The Board of Supervisors considered the design and construction phasing for the third floor of the building. Supervisors also considered the design of the atrium on the second and third floors that will eventually be used to accommodate court staff.
Previous estimates peg the construction cost at $15.3M. All phases are anticipated to be completed prior to 2030.
Supervisors also considered allowing the Clerk-Recorder’s Office to remain in the courthouse until its new permanent location is ready.
State law requires the City to have an additional justice of peace by January 2027. As the expansion is not scheduled to complete until 2029, the new justice is expected to share a courtroom with the district court.
Previous reports indicate the design will be completed by November 2025.
