Kitty Hawk Parking Structure Near Harry Reid Recommended for Approval

The Clark County Zoning Commission recommended approval of American Nevada Company’s proposed Kitty Hawk Parking Structure at 625 Kitty Hawk Way in Paradise during its Nov. 5 meeting.

KHW 625, LLC is the property owner, while American Nevada Companyis serving as the developer. TRC Parkitects is the architect. Gothic Landscape, Inc. is the landscape architect, and Kaempfer Crowell is providing legal representation.

The 83-foot-tall, 839.9KSF parking garage will, if built to plan, be constructed on a 3.8-acre site zoned Public Facility with a Public Use designation. BEX initially broke the story in October of this year. (NVBEX, Oct. 3)

The six-story garage is proposed just north of Harry Reid International Airport’s Terminal One. The project was originally slated to be considered by the Zoning Commission during its Oct. 8 meeting but was held at the request of Clark County staff.

The garage is proposed on land that is currently occupied by a Sky Chefs building, which will be demolished to make way for the prospective garage if it is approved. The garage is designed to have more than 2,200 parking spaces and will have solar panels installed on its roof.

The parking structure has been controversial due to its proximity to nearby jet fuel tanks. Clark County firefighters recently responded to a report of jet fuel spilling over the top of the tanks. Notably, no injuries were sustained, nor were any airport operations impacted by the spillage.

The parking structure was recommended for denial by the Paradise Town Advisory Board during its Oct. 28 meeting.

The local Department of Aviation stated the design has several safety and security concerns due to its size and location. The Department fears the solar panels could potentially cause a glare that could be distracting to pilots.

The Zoning Commission recommended approval of the project, noting it will be subject to a variety of studies before ground is ever broken.
