The Bureau of Land Management approved Ormat Technologies Inc.’s proposed Crescent Valley Power Plant near Reno and Elko.
According to Ormat’s website, the company designs, builds and supplies all of its power plants. The company has several existing plants throughout the United States, Kenya, Guadalupe, Guatemala and Honduras.
The planned 30-megawatt geothermal production facility would be able to provide power for around 33,000 homes.
Current plans include the construction of a power plant, a photovoltaic solar field, 17 geothermal fluid production, injection wells, new accessways and roadway improvements, an aggregate pit and geothermal fluid pipelines. Notably, plans also include an electrical line, substation and switching station, among other support facilities.
Alongside its approval, the BLM cited President Trump’s Executive Order 14154. The executive order is intended to increase the production of energy facilities throughout the nation.
The project was originally proposed in 2022 and went through the National Environmental Policy Act review process.
