Amazon purchased a plot of land in Wells with the intention of constructing a delivery station that will bring about 100 permanent jobs.

The move comes as part of Amazon’s commitment to invest $4B across the nation to ensure quick deliveries for those living in rural areas. The move has received support from Wells city staff.

The new facility could spark an increase in the workforce and infrastructure in rural northeast Nevada.

The plan comes after Amazon had shuttered its longtime fulfillment center in north Reno. Amazon then filed a permit with Reno for a smaller delivery center, showing the company is moving to serve northern Nevada through multiple, smaller facilities, rather than one large one.

According to the company, its investments have resulted in the creation of 28,100 indirect jobs, which include positions in the construction, logistics and professional services sectors. Furthermore, the company has created more than 20,000 direct jobs. (Source)
