The Clark County Board of Commissioners is set to discuss potential guidelines regarding future data center developments.
This comes after the Zoning Commission approved land-use entitlements for an expansion of the Switch data center campus at Warm Springs Road and Edmond Street in Enterprise. (NVBEX; June 20)
The discussion is explicitly regarding, “The application process and approval criteria for data centers in unincorporated Clark County.”
Commissioners may request a draft for an ordinance, which would then be prepared for a later meeting. No official plans have been made at the time of this writing. Several other local jurisdictions have enacted moratoriums while preparing ordinances to address the controversial development type.

Commissioners are concerned unrestricted data centers may eat away at water, energy and the quality of life. Notably, the new Switch data center system uses 100% renewable energy funded by the company. The new data center will also utilize a closed-loop system with non-evaporative fluids.
